Traveling by car

Switzerland has a high-quality road network. Most places can be reached by car as you can see on the map of Switzerland.

There are some towns and regions in which cars are prohibited, or that simply can be reached by mountain transportation or train only.

Before hitting the road with your own car or a rental car, please read about the basic traffic rules and be sure that you know how to drive in the mountains.

Combining car and train

Even if you travel to Switzerland by car, the train is still a great option for day trips: you'll have no parking issues and there's more time for the driver to admire the scenery.

It's worth looking into the rail passes, even if you plan to use a car.
