Dear All,

We are a family of 5 with 3 children aged 17-25 years respectively. We are looking forward to walking/hiking and exploring Wengen, Lauterbrunnen, Grindelwald etc for 7 days in August 2023 basing ourselves in Wengen. We are building an itinerary of walks/hikes for this beautiful region and thinking about walking one way and then taking a gondola/funicular/train back to Wengen. Please could I have some advise about which passes would be most suitable for our trip. Would it be better to just pay as we go?

Thank you

Jika

You should get the Berner Oberland Pass. This is the best overall pass for the whole area, allowing you to go for hikes in the immediate Jungfrau area, but also around the Thuneresee, Brienzersee, Hasliberg, Kandersteg etc areas. It also gives free travel to Bern which is well worth a visit

Hi Jika,

Welcome to MySwissAlps.

I agree with 1960man's suggestion to get a Berner Oberland Pass. You can find information about this pass here: www.myswissalps.com/regionalpassberneseoberland

Getting the Jungfrau Travel Pass could also be an option. This pass covers a smaller area than the Berner Oberland Pass but is ideal if your trip is limited to the Jungfrau region. You can find further details about the Jungfrau Travel Pass here: www.myswissalps.com/jungfrautravelpass

Either way, a railpass will save you time as you won't have to stressed about purchasing tickets for each trip and you can hop and hop off as many times as you wish.

Hope this gets you started.

Regards,

Anna

Dear 1960man and Anna,

Thank you kindly for your respective replies. It looks like I need to carefully plan our itinerary then decide if the pass is worthwhile as we will be mostly walking and possibly only using transport one way or for part of our journey. If I have understood the pass prices correctly, I am not sure if we will be using CFH190 worth of transport per person over a 3 day period.

Is there any likelihood that there will be any offers on these passes between now and August?

Thank you again for your reply.

Best wishes,

Jika :)

Hello Jika,

We are not aware of any promotions at the moment, if there are, they will be shared on this forum. There was a recent promotion for the Swiss Travel Pass but this ended on May 14.

Many members find it useful to carry out some calculations via our "How to choose a rail pass" link. That way they can be sure the best pass is displayed for their trip. Take a look here:

I hope this helps. Do feel free to reach out with any additional questions.

Kind regards,

Yolanda
