Hi All, I am planning to go to Lucerne on 27 October. I will be with my wife and 3 years old daughter. Unfortunately, I only have one day in Lucerne. This is my first time to Lucerne. Is that possible to visit 2 out of 3 mountains area near lucerne (rigi, titlis, pliatus) in 1 day? If I need to choose, which two between those 3 that can be visit in 1 day. Thanks.

Hi, and welcome to MySwissAlps!

You can use the Swiss Timetable to plan your trips to, from and between mountains and decide for yourself what you can fit into one day:

www.myswissalps.com/ti metable

These pages will explain how to get to each mountain top:

www.myswissalps.com/ti tlis/gettingthere

www.myswissalps.com/pi latus/gettingthere

www.myswissalps.com/ri gi

Something to be aware of is that the cable car/gondola between Pilatus Kulm (the top of Pilatus) and Kriens (the valley station in the suburbs of Luzern/Lucerne) will not be operating when you are there, as it is closed for maintenance from 23 October until 10 November. You can still get to the top and back again in the cogwheel train from Alpnachstad.

If you are trying to fit 2 mountain visits into one day, and Pilatus is one of them, you can save time by taking the train to Alpnachstad instead of the boat. The boat takes almost an hour, but the train takes less than 20 minutes.

Hi rian79id,

I think time-wise Rigi and Pilatus are the easiest to do together in one day. The difference isn't significant - any two can be done in one day if you want to.

I would take a look at the weather the morning of departure and see which mountains look the clearest and for or those 2.

Thanks for the reply.

If I do like below, does it make sense or not for 1 day?

Lucerne - Alpnachstad (by train) - Up and down to Pilatus summit with cogwheel train - Alpnachstad (change to train) - Engelberg (change to cableway) - Mount Titlis - Engelberg - Lucerne. Then take a boat ride from there if there's time.

I doubt you will have the time for a boat cruise unless you are thinking dinner/evening cruise. Otherwise if you get an early start you can certainly follow your route and do both mountain tops.

Be sure to use the timetable to plan out all your movements!
