I am doing my own rail bookings through Switzerland in August using a Swiss Travel Pass. On 8 August I want to travel from Interlaken West to Spiez (8.05 am – 8.22 am), then Spiez to Brig departing at 8.36 am. I am a senior person with luggage, will I have time to change platforms/trains in order to catch 8.36 am to Brig? I am booked on the Glacier Express from Brig Bahnhofplatz departing at 10.18 am. I have no idea how large the railway station is at Spiez and how many trains go to Brig at that time in the morning if I happened to miss my connecting train? Any advice you can give me so that I don’t miss the Glacier Express would be most appreciated as I am coming from Australia especially for this Swiss rail journey!

Hi Elaine,

Welcome to MySwissAlps.

If you take the 0805 connection from Interlaken West, you'll have more than enough time to catch the Glacier Express departing Brig at 1018: https://www.myswissalps.com/glacierexpress/gettingthere.

You can check train schedules online: www.myswissalps.com/timetable

You have a 14-min transit in Spiez and this is more than sufficient to switch from Platform 2 to 3. The journey from Spiez to Brig takes about 35 mins and arrival should be around 0911. So you'll have one free hour in Brig. The station has a few restaurant and shops if you need to get anything. You can also explore the town centre, which is located just across the road from the station: www.myswissalps.com/brig

Anna

Very few stations in Switzerland have more than 5 or 6 tracks. At Spiez, it takes between 2 and 4 minutes to changes trains depending on which track they are on. Intercity (IC) trains to Brig usually depart from trach 2 or 3. Your train will be a route IC8 - usually double decker coaches. It is the only train departing Spiez for Brig at that time
