Hello,

I am looking for suggestions of things to do, places to go, on rainy days in the Bernese Oberland region (Lake Thun area)? I will be staying there the last week of May and the first week of June. In following the current weather, and forecasts for the next couple of weeks, there seems to be a good deal of rain predicted for many of the days. I am wanting to come up with some "plan b" ideas that can be done indoors or in more sheltered locations, if we experience all day rain showers while we are there. Thanks so much for any suggestions and advice.

Hi Coni,

You can find links to local weather information and forecast here: www.myswissalps.com/weather/forecast. The Swiss Meteo forecast is usually reliable up to 5 days in advance. It' s always a good idea to have a back-up plan for bad weather days. Here are my personal recommendations on what to do on a rainy day in the Bernese Oberland.

1. Visit St Beatus Caves - this can be combined with a leissurely boat trip on Lake Thun.

2. Explore various castles around Lake Thun e.g Schloss Thun, Schloss Spiez and Schloss Oberhofen am Thunersee: www.myswissalps.com/thun

3. Sightseeing and shopping in the Swiss federal capital, Bern. Explore Bern's historical centre: www.myswissalps.com/bern

4. Visit the Kambly biscuit factory in Trubsachen. You can travel on the Kambly train and experience the beautiful Emmental valley: kambly.com/en/kambly-experience/

5.. Visit the Aareschlucht (Aare Gorge near Meiringen): aareschlucht.ch/en/info/aareschlucht/natural-wonder

6. Enjoy a trip on the Golden Pass train between Interlaken and Gstaad (this stretch is fully covered by the Berner Oberland Pass).

Hope this gives you some options for Plan B :) But let's hope the weather will be great throughout your trip.

Regards,

Anna
