How to reach Gruyères

You can best travel to Gruyères by train. The village center can be reached on foot from the railway station, or by bus.

Take a train to the railway station of Gruyères

There are trains to Gruyères from 3 main directions:

  1. From Montbovon in the south. Montbovon is located along the GoldenPass route. It can be reached from the directions of Montreux and Zweisimmen/Thun/Interlaken. You can travel to Montbovon in regular trains or in GoldenPass trains.
  2. From Lausanne/Bulle in the south.
  3. From Bern and Fribourg in the north. There's a direct train from Bern to Broc-Village. You'll have to change once there to get to Broc-Fabrique. From August 2023 there will be direct trains from Bern to Broc-Fabrique.

Please find all connections in the timetable.

From the Gruyères railway station to the town

The railway station of Gruyères is located near, but not in the old town center. The village itself sits on a hill. You can walk up there in about 15 minutes. There are stairs along the way. Buses between the town center and rail station are available too.

The Chocolate Train from Montreux

The Chocolate Train is a day trip from Montreux, combining visits to cheese and chocolate factories and some free time in Gruyères.

Traveling by car

The small town center of Gruyères is car-free. There are several parking lots near the town. One is located near the rail station and La Maison du Gruyère.

Dates of operation

The village and castle are accessible all year round. Please consult opening dates for other activities you’re interested in separately.

Tip: check the timetable before you start your trip.

TIMETABLE

Find train and bus schedules for your trip. The railway station outside of the village is ‘Gruyères’. Buses to the town leave from the nearby bus stop ‘Gruyères, gare’. The bus stop in the town center is referred to as ‘Gruyères, ville’.
