How to reach Mürren and how to get around
Mürren is car-free and can be reached by train and cableway only. The area can be explored by train and cableway, and on foot.
How to reach Mürren
Mürren can be reached by train and cableway only. There are two ways to reach Mürren:
- From Lauterbrunnen, you can take the cableway to Grütschalp. Then change to the narrow gauge train to "Mürren BLM", the train station in the north of the village. Lauterbrunnen can be reached by train.
- From Stechelberg, you can take the cableway up to Mürren, with a change in Gimmelwald. The cable car station, called "Mürren (Schilthornbahn)", is in the south of the village. Stechelberg can be reached by bus from Lauterbrunnen.
Both routes are very scenic. We think the Stechelberg route is more spectacular because, the cableway offers a better view of the steep rock walls rising from the valley.
Drivers have two options: they can park in the garage in Lauterbrunnen or at the parking lot near the Stechelberg cableway station. Both are paid parkings. Travel by train if you can. You will save on parking costs, and you won't be needing a car to explore the region anyway.
How to get around the area
From Mürren, you can take a cable car up to the Schilthorn. There's also a funicular to Allmendhubel starting from "Mürren (Allmendhubelbahn)". This is a wonderful place to admire the mountains Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, and to go hiking.
Apart from those options you can take the train/cableway down to Lauterbrunnen or Stechelberg. Lauterbrunnen has train connections to Wengen and to Interlaken and the rest of Switzerland from there.
In winter, ski lifts make sure you can reach the many pistes in the Jungfrau region.
