Towns and landscape

The Poschiavo valley is pretty isolated, as it can only be reached via the Bernina Pass and Italy. Poschiavo is the central town in this small valley. People speak Italian, and the architecture of the houses reflects the Italian atmosphere too. The next larger village is Tirano in Italy, destination of the Bernina Express.

The forested slopes merge into mountains up to 3000 m in the east and 4000 m in the west. The horizon in the north-west is dominated by the glaciers and snow capped mountains of the Bernina massif.
